Audrey Hepburn: a Belgian Legend
Very few know that Audrey Hepburn, a British actress and model, was actually born in Ixelles a small commune in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Audrey spent her early childhood in Belgium and then moved on to England and the Netherlands.
She was known for her amazing beauty but mainly for her lifelong humanitarian activities. Audrey contributed to UNICEF since as early as 1954, and after her acting career she worked in some of the poorest communities of South America, Asia and Africa between 1988 and 1992. In recognition of her work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Audrey was awarded with the distinctive Presidential Medal of Freedom in December 1992.
Although she starred in several movies, Audrey truly became famous for her role in Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961. She was an icon and a trend setter with a remarkable taste for fashion and jewellery.
What made her wedding rings special?
Audrey Hepburn was married twice, but it is Mel Ferrer, her first husband that gave her the engagement and wedding rings that would become legendary.
Mel proposed to Audrey with a fabulous eternity wedding band made of white gold and set with diamond baguettes. It may have looked simple by Hollywood standards, but as it was later on completed by not one but two wedding bands, one in rose gold and the other in yellow gold it made for a stunning stackable trilogy.
This stackable modern wedding ring became soon legendary. And while Audrey could choose to wear one or the other depending on her outfit, she would eventually wear all three at once most of the time.
