Make sure you measure the inner diameter and not the outer edge of the band.

2) Measure the finger directly: Wrap a narrow strip of paper or non-stretchy string around the base of the finger, mark where the ends meet, then measure that length in millimetres. Use a conversion chart to find the corresponding size. Practical tips: measure at the end of the day when fingers are warm, repeat the measurement two or three times, and remember that wider bands fit more snugly so you may need to size up slightly for wide settings.
