What Makes Tension Set Diamond Rings So Unique?
Wondering what makes tension set diamond rings stand out in the world of fine jewelry? At BAUNAT, we offer these extraordinary pieces that create the illusion of a diamond floating between two metal elements, held solely by tension force. This innovative design allows maximum light to reach the diamond from all angles, enhancing its natural brilliance and creating a spectacular sparkle.
Tension settings are perfect for showcasing high-quality natural diamonds and other resilient gemstones with a hardness of 9 or above. While these contemporary art pieces require careful handling and precise sizing (as adjustments aren't possible after creation), they deliver unmatched elegance and a modern aesthetic.
For added visual impact, consider combining a tension setting with pavé diamonds along the band. This pairing creates a truly unique ring that reflects individuality while maintaining the distinctive floating gem appearance that makes tension settings so remarkable.

Deconstructing the Tension Setting
Which diamond shapes work best in a tension setting?
Exercise caution with very elongated or sharply pointed shapes, for example marquise and pear cuts; the narrow tips and uneven load points can increase the challenge of achieving a durable tension clamp without specialist preparation. If you favour an elongated silhouette, consult our specialists about reinforced profiles or tailored mounting techniques.
Selection tips: prefer stones with well‑proportioned cuts and strong girdles, since symmetry and girdle integrity contribute directly to how the stone sits and resists stress in a tension mount. Prioritise cut quality and optical symmetry for the best visual effect in a tension setting; for full grading guidance, our diamond hub provides the complete 4 C's overview.
Embracing the Aesthetics - Pros and Cons of Tension Setting
How to clean and care for your tension ring
Frequency and storage guidance: Perform a light cleaning weekly if you wear the ring often; for heavier soiling, repeat the routine as needed. Store your tension ring separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratches and avoid placing it in the same box as other jewellery to prevent mixed‑metal abrasion.
For tailored care recommendations or a professional inspection schedule, please contact BAUNAT so we can advise based on your specific ring and lifestyle.
Daily wear and sizing considerations
On sizing: a precise fit is essential because many tension mounts cannot be resized in the conventional way without altering the structural integrity of the setting. If your finger size is likely to change, discuss alternatives with us up front; options include designing the band with discrete sizing features or creating a bespoke remake that preserves the tension aesthetic while allowing future adjustments. For small fit issues, a trained jeweller can sometimes offer subtle solutions such as sizing beads or inserts, but these are assessed case by case to avoid compromising the clamp.
If you have doubts about daily wear given your lifestyle, contact BAUNAT for personalised advice so we can recommend the most suitable mounting and sizing approach.

Mouradian’s contributions range from advisory input to promoting practical tools that make provenance data usable for retailers and end customers. In a LinkedIn post he highlighted the need for verifiable mounted-stone authentication as a way to strengthen consumer confidence in diamond provenance.

About Baunat Group
Baunat Group is a privately held jewellery and diamond group that brings several complementary brands together under one strategic umbrella. The company’s mission is to combine high-quality craftsmanship with a model it calls Smart Luxury, offering premium pieces while keeping direct access for clients through both online and showroom channels. The Group’s brand architecture includes three distinct labels, each with a clear market role. BNT Diamonds handles sourcing and investment-grade natural stones, supporting the Group’s supply chain and serving partners and customers who require certified natural diamonds.
Antwerp-based craftsmanship is central to the Group’s approach, with key design and finishing stages carried out in its ateliers. The company follows recognised due diligence frameworks for sourcing and pursues traceability and conflict-free practices across its supply chain. Operationally, this means in-house cutting and setting combined with documented procedures that support provenance and customer reassurance.
