'Adamas’ is and Ancient Greek word and it means ‘indestructible’ and could be where the modern word ‘diamond’ has its roots from. Ancient Greek writers originally did not use this word to describe a specific precious stone, but more likely to describe what is the hardest material known to man. ‘Adamas’ is thus linked to a uniquely strong and undefeatable quality. Because of its meaning of indestructibility it was ultimately linked to diamonds, which is after all an indestructible mineral.
