What is a rail setting?

With a rail setting or channel setting, the gemstones are fixed between two parallel walls of precious metal. The channel setting is ideal for equal sized and right-angled stones. The rail setting resembles the pavé setting, but in the rail setting, the diamonds are set in the precious metal to form an even unity.
