The term ‘cape’ is named after the diamond deposit area Cape Province in South-Africa. In the diamond business, when we talk about ‘Cape’ it refers to a yellowish colour of a diamond. Even though a pure perfect diamond is colourless, a coloured diamond may increase a diamond’s value. But the colour ‘Cape’ decreases a diamond’s value as it is not a so-called fancy yellow diamond, but rather a yellowish white diamond with the colour grading M-N. Keeping in might that D is the highest and therefore most valuable colour grading, we can conclude that the colour Cape is a lower and much less valuable colour.
