To brute means to shape a diamond by rubbing it against another diamond or diamond chip. The bruting process is one of the many steps in the diamond polishing process. Two diamonds or pieces of diamond are set onto two spinning axles which will turn in opposite directions. They will then grind against each other until they are both shaped into a round diamond. Bruting is quite an early stage in the polishing process. It is only after the bruting is finished that the polisher will start faceting the diamond.
