Due to its complex crystallization a rough diamond is a specimen that is extremely difficult to carve. Before we can start the polishing process, we need to examine how we can retain the highest possible amount of weight of the rough diamond block. Because diamond is an expensive material, it is of course important keep as much of the mineral as possible. The rough diamond block will be polished with the same hard material, because as diamond is the hardest mineral on earth, no other minerals are hard enough to polish it.
